Australian time zones
Australia has three standard time zones, and five in summer because only some states use daylight saving.
| Where | Winter (standard time) | Summer |
|---|---|---|
| Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Hobart | UTC+10 | UTC+11 |
| Brisbane | UTC+10 | UTC+10 |
| Adelaide | UTC+9:30 | UTC+10:30 |
| Darwin | UTC+9:30 | UTC+9:30 |
| Perth | UTC+8 | UTC+8 |
AEST (UTC+10) is used in Queensland, NSW, the ACT, Victoria and Tasmania; in summer the southern states move to AEDT (UTC+11) but Queensland stays on AEST. ACST (UTC+9:30) covers South Australia and the Northern Territory; South Australia moves to ACDT (UTC+10:30) in summer. AWST (UTC+8) is Western Australia, all year.
Broken Hill in NSW uses South Australian time, and a few places near borders, such as Eucla in WA, keep their own local time.
